Will of John Hoover - Nov. 2, 1811

Know all good men by these present that I, John Hoover, for and in consideration of the love, good will and affection which I have and do bear toward my beloved daughter, Jerushia Jefcoat, also for divers good causes and of consideration to me, THE SAID JOHN HOOVER, hereunto moving have given, granted and confirmed, and by these present do give, grant and confirm unto my beloved daughter, Jerushia Jefcoat, in following manner, instantly after my death as follows: one negro man named Hanmore, one negro woman, Clander and her three children Millander, Dave and Esther, and all her future increase, one negro woman and man; half of the plantation where I now live, including the rice field, all the rest woodland containing two hundred and eight acres, more or less, joining Christian Hoover’s land which I, John Hoover, conveyed to Christian Hooever, being the middle of the said tract; another tract of land containing three hundred and eighteen acres property in Lexington District on Big Pond Branch on the waters of the North Edisto River bounded on all sides by vacant land. To have all the above named property, both real and personal, forever.

Should my beloved daughter, Jerushia Jefcoat, die before her husband, Elijah Jefcoat, then he is to have all the above named during his natural life and his death the property above mentioned, both real and personal, to the heirs of my beloved daughter Jerushia Jefcoat, to have the same without any waivers of conditions whatever, forever.

The last named tract of three hundred and eighteen acres was surveyed for John Hoover the 17th day of October, 1791.

Whereof I bind myself, my heirs and afore signs to warrant all the above named property, both real and personal, in the manner above mentioned from the claims of myself and any other person lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof.

Lexington made oath that he was present and saw John Hoover
Signed, seal and as is act and deed deliver the within Deed of Gift for the use and purpose within mentioned and at the same time he saw Daniel Thevatt sign his name thereto, as a writing with himself. Sworn to before me this 2nd day of November, 1811.
