58. Richard Benjamin Sturkie. Born on 4 Jan 1809 in Gaston, Lexington, SC. Richard Benjamin died on 18 Jan 1892; he was 83. Buried in Sandy Run Baptist Church Cem, Gaston, SC. Occupation: Chairmaker.19

Research: A Claim of entitlement was filed by Richard Sturkie and Jerushia (Jeffcoat) Sturkie, in Lexington Co, SC June 1852. This claim names Jerushia Hoover Jefcoat heirs at time of her death Jan 7, 1818; her husband Elijah and her six children: Joshua, Wiley, J., Mary wife of John Amaker, Harriet wife of Jacob Amaker; Martha, wife of Gabriel Sturkie and Jerushia wife of Richard Sturkie. and that Elijah has fifteen living children by his second marriage. The census in 1810 and 1820, for Elijah's household agrees with the six children. In 1820 Elijah is in his second marriage and has a son also on this census who is Thomas Duff born 1819 from the second marriage.
