Notes for John Monroe (Spouse 1)
John M. Jeffcoat married 2-2-1842 at the home of his bride Lavenia Chrim. The ceremony was performed by his Uncle Elijah. His brother Urbane and Mary Chrim signed as witnesses.
Rev. John M. Jeffcoat preached at New Hope Church which is mentioned in the Methodist Quarterly Con. Minutes as having a conference there December 3, 1843. There is a New Hope Methodist Church near Aiken, SC, probably the same church. Rev. John M. Jeffcoat, died March 10 1892 and is buried near his old home place in lower Lexington County. His white marble gravestone which bears the Masonic Insignia is completely hidden from view by cherry laurel trees and bushes; and is surrounded by a large open field. There is no marker to Lavenia nor any other who may have been buried there.
