Obituary/DC notes for Urbane Westley “West” JEFFCOAT
U.W. Jeffcoat
Special to the State
Swansea, Jan 6, U.W. Jeffcoat died suddenly last night. He went to bed in his usual health, excepting a slight cold.  About 2:30 o'clock this morning his wife awoke and spoke to him but got no response. She found that he was dead.

Mr. Jeffcoat was a valiant soldier in the War Between the States and served the entire four years in Capt. Dannelly's company of the Twntieth South Carolina INfantry, Company D.

During the last 25 years, except a few short periods, Mr. Jeffcoat was the trial justice in this part of the county and administered the affairs of his office fairly and impartially.

He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was a moral, upright man.  He was about 67 years old.

Notes for Caroline May (Spouse 1)

I spoke to both David Sturkie, then to Richard Wallace Sturkie (80 yrs. old).  R W said Gus said that "he had no father and damned near no mother."

This is why some of this is so hard to find with some of these families because people don't want you to know what happened.  Seems the past never goes away and it certainly is no ones fault......everyone once in a while or even more often, there is a luny who has no bounds.........

There is a Gus Sturkie Road in Swansea, SC named after this man who was very well respected in his community as was his family.  I don't know any of these folks, but the ones I have met so far seem to be very nice people.}
