Gabriel Sturkie was probably born between 1812-1822 in Orangeburg District, SC, and died about 1865 in the Civil War. He married the widow Martha Ann “Patsey” Jeffcoat Martin about 1844 in Lexington County, South Carolina, daughter of Elijah Jefcoat and Jerusha Hoover. She is said to have been born 08 May 1813 in Lexington Co., South Carolina, and died 12 Feb 1890. Gabriel’s parents are probably John Sturkie born 1782 and his wife Martha (last name unknown), based on Gabriel’s close relationship with Richard who is a documented son of John and Martha.
