D. Murphy, to fulfill a contract made previously between the said John D. A. Murphy and Lewis Barrs). Delivered in the presence of Benjamine Sturkie and Jaber Walters. I. I. or J. J. Chaney, Magt. October 27, 1855 - Court of Common Pleas
In a suit, brought by Timothy Gartman, John H. Wise, John J. Martin and wife and Barnel Livingston (Adm), against Richard (Benjamine) Sturkie for Fiere Farcias, the damages were $1770.51. Simon Peter Wingard, the Sheriff of Lexington District, sold Richard’s land at public auction.

October 27, 1856 - The State of South Carolina
To all and singular the Sheriffs of the said state--Greetings
You, and each of you, are herby commanded as you have been once before that the Goods and Chattels, Houses, Lands, and other Heredidtaments and Real Estate of Richard Sturkie you cause to be levied the sum of ????? and also the interest on the sum of one hundred dollars the twenty seventh day of October in the Year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and fifty Six until satisfaction shall be made of this Execution, which George W. Dykes, bearer, in the Court of Common Please, before the Judges of the said State at Lexington Court in the Court of Common Pleas, before the Judges of the said State, at Lexington Court in and for the District of Lexington lately recovered against the said Defendant for his ???? which he sustained as will be reasons of his not performing certain promises and ??????to the said plaintiff the said defendant lately made as ????for his costs and charges by him expended, in and about prosecuting his suit in that behalf of the said defendant.

As you have there this Writ “according to law,” and the said Moneys, before the Judges, at the Court of common Please, to be holden at the place aforesaid, to render to the said Plaintiff his Debt and Damages aforesaid.

LEE Esquire, Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, in and for the District aforesaid, at the place aforesaid, the Twenty Second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Sixty one and in the eighty sixth year of the sovereignty and Independence of the State of South Carolina

June 2, 1856 - Book T - Page 243 - Conveyance of 256 acres of land to Dr. John Harth from Sheriff Simon P. Wingard. “By virtue of Sundry Writs of fiere fascias, issued out of the Court of Common Please held for the District of Lexington, tested October. 27, 1855 at the suit of John J. Martin and others, bearers to me directed, commanding me that of the goods and chattels, lands and tenements of Richard Sturkie to levy the sum of $1770.51 damages and cost. I have seized--”Richard Sturkie’s land on Caney Branch, water of Cedar Creek, of the North Edisto River, containing 250 acres and sold to the highest bidder for $80.00.

(Joseph) Frank (Franklin) Sturkie bought 146 acres of land for $180.00, on Sandy Run Creek, bounded on the north by J. Frank Sturkie and W. F. Mack, east by Frank Moorer, south by Z.A.W. Sturkie, and west by D.A.Sturkie. 
J.  L. Wise witnessed the signatures on Feb. 3, 1896

The owners of the land were the sons and daughters and grand children of Richard Benjamin.  I have tried to identify them but there are three that I can't place--Henrietta Lucas, M.J. Sturkie, Laura Wise, R. W. Sturkie.  Can you identify any of these?

Henrietta Lucas -  Daughter of deceased Wesley J. Sturkie and grand daughter of Richard and Jerusha.
Laura Wise - wife of J. L. Mac but what kin to RB Sturkie?  Laura Sturkie must be the daughter of one of RB's sons.
