Obit for Zedekiah A. Sturkie

Zedekiah A. Sturkie, 63, Gaston famer died suddenly at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home.
He was a life long resident of Gaston where he was a member of Harmony Baptist Church He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Murvelle Sharpe Sturkie, four daughters, Mrs Coral Lee Roland of Swansea, Mrs. Dessie Cook of Columbia, Mrs. Gladie Kyzer of West Columbia and Mrs. Maggie Stansberry of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Harold F. Sturkie and Howard Legree Sturkie both of Gaston; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Lee Mills of Gaston and Mrs. Gurnie Bell Hallman of Columbia; two half sisters, Mrs. Lydia Miller of Batesburg and Mrs. Martha Rish of Greenwood; one brother, B. M. Sturkie of Columbia, and 28 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Thompson Funeral Home.


STURKIE FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON

Funeral services for Zedekiah A. Sturkie, 63, of Gaston who died at his home Monday afternoon will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the Sandy Run Baptist Church in Gaston by the pastor the Rev. J. K. Munro, the Rev. W. T. Chewing, the Rev. Taymond Morris and the Rev. John Stevenson.

Mr. Sturkie, a farmer, was a lifelong resident of Gaston and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and American Legion Post NO. 79.

Active pallbearers will be Earnest Jumper, Lucius Jumper, Elmore Moore, Gary Dowd, Ben Chavis and Sam Watts who will meet at the home at 3:30 this afternoon.

Honorary pallbearers are Lem Sightler, Carlie Sharpe, T. O. Lybrand, Roy Johnson, W. T. Smith, Henry Dowd, John Denny, H. B. Spradley, C. A. Bachman, Dr. Ed Allen, John Henry Dowd, John Roberts, J.E. Culley, C. C. Tarance, Lever Sharpe, the deacons of the Sandy Run Baptist Church and members of American Legion Guignard Post No. 79. The American Legion will have charge of the services at the graveside.

The Body is at the home in Gaston.

Lillie Murvelle Sharpe Sturkie, 80, of 107 Church St. died Aug. 2, 1984

Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Isa Belle Sharpe Sr.

She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, a charter member of the Sandy Run Chapter No. 230 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Woodmem Circle.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Elzie (Cora Lee) Roland and Mrs. Gladie Johns of West Columbia, Mrs. W. M. (Dessie) Belger of Columbia and Mrs. Margie Fisher of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Howard L. Sturkie and Harold F. Sturkie Sr. of Gaston; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Backman of Lexington; grandchildren great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Grace Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Roger Shaffer and the Rev. Junior Roland. Burial will be at the Gaston First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia is in charge.
