Notes for Opal Inez “Auntie” (Spouse 1)
“Auntie” was my mother’s only sister and my favorite aunt. She and Uncle Bo had no children of their own but 30 + nieces and nephews. I am sure that each one of us felt that we were Auntie's favorite--she was certainly ours. She never said to any of us that we were her favorite. Why then, did we all feel that way. She filled our emotional bank accounts with personal interest, conversation, questions, genuine affirmation and love. We were just kids but we were real people who mattered to her. She always had time for us.
How fortunate I was to have had an inordinate amount of quality time with my Auntie. Her love of reading and learning were evident everywhere you looked. A member of AAUW and a First Baptist Church Sunday School teacher for fifty years—she was always studying something—usually several books at a time. We had wonderful conversations about Ulysses, Plato, Genesis, the Old Testament and whatever the best sellers of the times were. She loved nature, cats
