Rev. William Hoover was born in Pike county, Miss, at Oak Grove, the home of his father, Judge Christian Hoover, one mile from Myrtle Place, is residence, January 25, 1832. His father, Christian Hoover son of Christian Hoover and Mary Ziegler, was born in Orangeburg district, S.C. November 24, 1790. He came to Mississippi when it was a territory and a wild country, inhabited principally by Indians and wild beasts. He was a soldier in the war of 1812; was at the battle of New Orleans. He married Mrs. Mary Neyland Nailor, April 8, 1823. She was a sweet spirited Christian woman, of remarkable beauty.
