-----------------------------
William Tyler

From England, he took the oath of fidelity in New Haven, Connecticut on 7th of April 1657. His estate was inventoried on 8th Feb. 1692-3 at 348
pounds 15s 8d. He removed to Milford, Connecticut, where he married Abigail Terrill, daughter of Roger Terrill (from England, who was at Milford in 1639, was made a freeman in 1669, and married Abigail Ufford, daughter of Thomas Ufford, Sr. There is a stone erected to Roger Terrill on Memorial Bridge in Milford.).

The real home of this line is Wallingford, Connecticut where William's sons William and John, the only males who had issue, removed early and left numerous descendants. The first two generations of this family figure in New Haven, Milford, Derby, and Wallingford, all early settlements in the present New Haven County. Some suppose this family to have come from Devonshire, England. There is strong evidence to prove that William was related to Roger (1) of the Branford line. A tradition is that the Rev. John Tyler of Norwich Connecticut visited Devonshire, England relatives. The children of this family were born in Milford. The four elder children were baptized there in Sept. 1669.

Notes for WILLIAM TYLER:
Born in Milford about 1665; baptized there, Sept. 1669; accepted to full communion, Dec. 14, 1685; married. in Derby, Connecticut June 3, 1695 to Mary Lothrop who died in Wallingford March 11, 1754. In 1703 in company with Samuel Stanley, he purchased the mills at the present Yalesville, Connecticut (a part of Wallingford formerly and for many years called Tyler's Mills), and bought out Stanley's interest the following year. This was the old gristmill of Wallingford, first owned and controlled by the town but in 1707 the town made absolute and final contract with Tyler, surrendering municipal control. The mill remained in the family about 100 years, through William, Samuel, Samuel, Jr. who died in 1822, after which they were set off to his daughter, Merab, whose guardian, Nehemiah Rice, sold them to Charles Yale, Esq. who renewed the surroundings and changed the name to Yalesville. Quite a settlement early grew up around "the Mills", and from the ownership of numbers of kindred early acquired the name of "Tyler's Mills". They were an old "Tory Mill" where grist for the British was ground in the Revolution, taken to Branford, and smuggled over to Long Island. The Yale who succeeded the Tylers was a dissolute man, but the place has regained its grace. The old buildings were consumed by fire about 1860. William (2) is rated on the Wallingford Grand List of 1707 at 57 pounds. The children were born in Wallingford.
