William Allen
Notes for William Allen David “Uncle Will” (Spouse 1)
From The Yeoman’s Daughter by Julia E. Luker

“This is William Allan. He was named for Grandsire Ewing. The Allan is a Scotch family name. This tall, slender girl by him is Sarah LaForce. She was from Louisiana. Her widowed father married Aunt Mollie. Sarah La force had gone to boarding school in Red River Parish where the La Force farm was. She used to say speeches with Negro dialect in them at the Chapel school. ..She and William married when he was twenty, and Papa settled them on a plot of land in our east pasture. They had four sons whom they determined to educate. So one by one as they finished the Chapel school, they sent them to Walnut Gap, and then on the Texas A & M.”

“Their oldest son, John, rose from County Agent to be manager of one of the largest milk plants in the south. He has successfully coped with big business. He and I are in the same generation, though I taught him in the Chapel school. He was six feet, three inches tall...I always visit John, Pap’s namesake. A second son, Cyril Smith, is an acknowledged expert in the field of Soil Conservation by the United States Government. Will’s two younger sons are in agricultural and government positions. David is city inspector of meats and James B. owns a dairy.”

“So you see the posterity of John Smith still have their roots in the soil--a heritage of the Old South.”
